PATRICK J. EIDING: TONY MAZZOCCHI AWARD
President of the Philadelphia Council AFL-CIO since 2002, representing over 100 local unions. Secretary-Treasurer of the Philadelphia Building Trades Council. Previously Business Manager and Financial Secretary of the Insulators and Asbestos Workers Local 14. Always a leader in the fight for the rights of workers, including the right to a safe and healthy job, for job development and training, for charitable support, and for political activism. The leader of leaders.

BARBARA LAKER, WENDY RUDERMAN, and DYLAN PURCELL: KAREN SILKWOOD AWARDEES
These Philadelphia Inquirer journalists authored the award-winning 3 part series of articles entitled “Toxic City * Sick Schools” that documented the horrible conditions and known health and safety risks for students, teachers, and workers in the public schools, and the urgency of the situation. This series, along with organizing by the Phila. Healthy Schools Coalition, has helped move elected officials and public school administrators to begin to address the worst cases.

CHRISTINA MARTINEZ: CRYSTAL EASTMAN AWARD
Co-owner and chef of South Philly Barbacoa, and first Philly Chef to have her own episode in Netflix series Chef’s Table. Philaposh and the Coalition for Restaurant Safety and Health were invited to present info about safety and health, and training on sexual harassment as a form of workplace violence, at community dinners she organized and at the restaurant.

MICHELLE JAMISON: LEADERSHIP IN HEALTH AND SAFETY AWARD
AFSCME District Council 47 Health and Safety Director since 2016. Previously a member of AFSCME Local 752 and Phila Zoo Safety and Health Committee. Since assuming her position as DC 47 Safety Director, Michelle has earned the respect of the union’s leadership and membership as well as City Management for her quick response to, and follow up on, every situation.

LEWIS C. FITZGERALD: LEADERSHIP IN HEALTH AND SAFETY AWARD
Lead Safety Instructor of all safety courses at Local 14, Heat and Frost Insulators Union, including asbestos, OSHA, and Process Safety Management. A member of Local 14 since 1972. Instrumental in the development of PA’s certified asbestos abatement courses. In 1998 worked with PALM in development of Process Safety Management program.

EDWARD J. LONG: LEADERSHIP IN HEALTH AND SAFETY AWARD
President, USW Local 12698 and member of the local/company Safety Committee since 1983. Ed became Chair of the Committee in 1996 and played a leadership role in winning the PA Governor’s Occupational Safety and Health Award. He is known for battling every day for the health and safety of the local membership.

PEGGY ELLIS: LEADERSHIP IN HEALTH AND SAFETY AWARD
Retired PA AFL-CIO Executive Secretary to the President and Former Secretary of the PA Governor’s OSH Conference Advisory Committee. After 33 years she retired in 2004. Since then, as a volunteer, she has shown her outstanding commitment to the safety and health of workers and has continued to work tirelessly for the welfare of others.
