36th Annual Workers Memorial Day Program

April 26 @ 8:30 am

On Friday, April 26th, we will be hosting our 36th Annual Workers Memorial Day program.  Recognized around the world, Workers Memorial Day is a collective effort to honor those who have lost their lives at work.  Philadelphia’s annual program, co-sponsored by PhilaPOSH and the Philadelphia Council, AFL-CIO, is the oldest and largest Worker’s Memorial Day event in the US.

Approximately 4,700 workers per year – that is 13 workers per day – are killed on the job. An estimated 120,000 workers die from occupational diseases. It is a fundamental right of all workers to work in an environment that is safe as possible.

In Pennsylvania, we are fighting to make sure ALL workers are safe. Nearly 600,000 public sector workers are not covered by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA). The Jake Schwab Worker Safety Act will extend critical workplace safety standards that federal OSHA outlines for private sector workplaces.

Join us in this effort and come out April 26th to find out more information on House Bill 299, and the companion Senate Bill 93 and learn how you can work along with our allies and us.

Family members from the area who have lost a loved one to a work-related traumatic injury or disease will join us.  It is our privilege to bring the family members together with the many unionists, community activists, and health and safety advocates who recognize the magnitude of their loss and are committed to fighting for healthy and safe worksites.

Please indicate on the form if you will be donating any of the seats you have purchased.  Please return no later than Friday April 19, 2024.

You can also make a special Memorial Gift that will be used to sponsor seats for the family members, youth workers from area schools, and injured workers who attend.  Acknowledgements of memorial gifts and sponsorships are printed in the program.
